Wroclaw- My Hometown and The City In Heart of Europe

Hi! 
Today I want to show you my hometown. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Central Europe. A few years ago it was not much known to the turists but now it is! So I hope that by this post more people would like to come and visit it! The city will be the European Capital of Culture and World Book Capital.

Wroclaw is a city located in the southwestern Poland in the Lower Silesia voivodeship. It is located only 3,5 hours from Warsaw and Berlin or 4 hours from Prague. The population of city is 634,487 and 1,164,600 in metropolitan area. Wroclaw has been established in the 10th century. The city belonged to the kingdoms like Bohemia (Czech Rep.), Hungary, Prussia (Germany), Habsburg Monarchy (Austria) or First French Empire.

The market square is a medieval and it is one It is one of the largest markets in Europe, with the largest town hall in Poland. The market was founded in the 13th century.

Monopol Hotel
    The one of the most exclusive hotel in the city, with the five-star. The hotel was built in 1892, in Art Nouveau style. The hotel guested famous people like Pablo Picasso, Irene Joliot-Curie or Violetta Villas. In 1937, there was built a balcony on which Hitler could spoke to the people and then Jan Kiepura (an acclaimed Polish singer with the international carrier) had performances on it in 1958.

Ostrow Tumski
Ostrow Tumski is the oldest part of the city. It was formerly an island known as the Cathedral Island between the branches of the Oder River, featuring the Wroclaw Cathedral built originally in the mid 10th century. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is built in Gothic style and the year of consecrated is 1272.



The Oder
Wroclaw is located among the Oder river. Moreover, the city has 5 rivers, 12 islands and 112 bridges. It is called as one of the "Venice of the North" 


University of Wroclaw

Wrocław is the third largest educational centre of Poland
with 135,000 students from all over the world in 30 colleges. Wroclaw has many public universities and colleges. Here you can read more if you would like to study in Poland.

Wroclaw is also a good city for shopping, There are many shopping malls with a huge selection. There are still be more interesenting places in Wroclaw. I will include them in the second post soon!
